I am still blogging about design, in-house and whatever else comes to mind on www.wearecospace.com so come on over and enjoy the process with me. You won’t be able to join or login yet, but you can leave comments and I’d love it if I had some of you over on that side to show we’re still alive, just reinvented.

Design Inspiration

I am a huge fan of infographics and on FastCo there is an article about the 8 Of The Year’s Most Creative Infographics which caught my eye of course. I think they are all beautiful but I am blown away by the moving ones and the simplicity. If you haven’t done so already, check this article out.

If you haven’t already…

I wrote a few weeks ago about switching the concept up for Within. While this new concept is still in beta version and is constantly being updated for my review in 14 days, Within will remain live indefinitely. I want to keep this site going because of all of you participating. But, here’s the tricky part – you’ll be able to see the blog portion on the other site as well. Will I completely let Within go? Probably not. Has it slowed down? Yes. and I apologize for that as I was ironing out the details of what to do with it.

If you’re interested, here’s the new site. I plan to get it going more and you all are welcome to join when that portion is coded out.

Great Resource for In-House Inspiration

November 20, 2013 in Blog

If you’re looking for great in-house work and have a little time, I found myself get lost in the posts on this site, HOW In-House January issue. I remember getting this issue in the mail and read it a few times, actually I think it’s sitting on my desk as I write this. But, in the web page they have the categories of winners for the design awards. I really liked the Consumer, Entertainment and Health care section. Health care because of the field I am currently working in.

If you have a spare moment, check it out here.

And here are a few that I enjoyed when I looked through them all!

I had the pleasure of actually seeing this conference in person but when I need reminders to the things I forget, I often rummage around the AIGA PIVOT Conference videos to get inspired and pumped up about design. Here’s one of my favorites from the list.

Note to Self…

November 4, 2013 in Blog

Don’t let your wordpress sites go unattended. I apologize for the MIA status. I have been working with a new professor who has guided me into a new concept for us in-house designers to connect better. The concept, CoSpace, is a community where in-house designers will be able to hold CoSpace’s locally to talk about design, books or lecture series. I am still fleshing out the details but that means that all of you here on Within will (hopefully) follow me over to the other site and want to help build out CoSpace’s existence. She coined it as a “Web 3.0″ experience….and I am really pushing to keep the blog aspect because that is where I connect with a lot of you around the country.

Is this something you would use? What are your thoughts? We were thinking it would be a “meetup” style concept only for in-house designers.

What’s new with everyone? I feel like I haven’t talked to anyone in the last few weeks with my zombie-mode of designing coming through. Literally, I work 8 or more hours here at my post and then I am back on until 10 or later for my thesis work.

I was hoping I would have more to share, but I can’t think of anything. There’s been a lot of restructuring around where I am at but the marketing department has made it out unscathed. We’re also developing a new website to replace the corporate site we have. Something “fresh” is about the only describing word I keep hearing these days.

Stay in touch, let me know what’s going on in the in-house world, your world and of course happy designing!

Government Stand Still

October 10, 2013 in Blog

Just thought I’d write a post that has affected me personally as a designer. Due to the government limbo that has recently been an issue, the company I work for has decided to furlough our whole company a few days a week to counter act the strain. While I understand the move made by higherups, I never thought this would affect us so badly. The whole company has this vibe around it where people are uncertain about their positions and departments.

I’ve always heard that the first department to get cut is the marketing and communications departments. But, hopefully, we can withstand the crisis and keep on moving forward. Due to the mandatory days off, my days have been crunched into 4 days which doesn’t seem too bad but with the amount of work I am really starting to get anxious about timelines and deadlines. It makes projects either rush into completion or drag out to the next week where you forget what the intent and the design was about. Well, at least for me. I am not used to having so much time “off”, I usually work 365 days non-stop with no breaks or vacations. For the last couple years at least.

Is anyone else affected by the government status? What types of changes have you seen and how do you handle them?
